With all the emphasis on eating healthy today, the grilled opah fish recipes come in handy. After all opah is an ideal source for omega-3 fatty acids and it is a great substitute for beef as a source of protein. This fish can be cooked a number of different ways, but one of the healthiest ways to prepare is to grill it.
An easy way to grill fish is in a fish basket, this way you do not have to worry about it sticking to the grill. If you are going to place it straight on the grill, make sure to thoroughly oil the grates. This way the fish will not stick as much as it would otherwise. In addition, you can wrap the fish in foil and place on the grill. Whichever way is your chosen method for grilling fish we have one of the grilled opah fish recipes for you to try.
Bob’s Grilled Opah Fish
- 1 clove of garlic chopped
- 1/4 cup of soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon of dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 4 opah fillets (6 ounces each)
Mix together the soy sauce, olive oil, chopped garlic, thyme, basil, pepper and lemon juice together and place in a large, re-sealable, freezer bag. Place the opah fillets in the bag and let the fillets marinade for about an hour in the refrigerator.
The grill needs to be on medium heat and oil the grate or use a fish basket. Take the opah out of the marinade and cook on the grill in either fashion. Each side will need about 5 minutes for the fish to completely cook. Serve hot with some side dishes.
Possible Side Dishes:
Roasted corn with herb butter would be a nice touch to this one of the grilled opah fish recipes.
Herb potatoes cooked in foil pouches on the grill will also work with the fish.
Tips on Fish
When serving fish for a meal, begin by buying the freshest fish you can find. Hopefully you live by the coastal areas where the opah is caught. The way you tell a fresh is the eyes should be clear for one thing.
It is hard to know how old frozen fish is and it just does not have the same flavor as fresh. If you cannot find fresh opah, but can find fresh salmon, salmon can be used instead in the recipe above.
Make sure you know how to clean this fish if you are catching it for yourself. After all, it has a lot of bones and skin. There is nothing worse to eat than poorly cleaned fish and it can look quite unappetizing if is not cut up correctly. Grilled is one of the healthier ways to cook opah, so enjoy.
